Cartier Calibre de Cartier Diver Luxury Watch Review

Watchuwant is now WatchBox! Subscribe for the best luxury watch content. A dive watch from Cartier might seem like a contradiction in terms. But one glance at the Cartier Calibre de Cartier Diver confirms that the Franco-Swiss luxury powerhouse nailed the execution of this critical model. The 42mm stainless steel Calibre de Cartier Diver brings Cartier cache to a place it's never been: 300 meters below the ocean surface. Launched in 2014 as the sports variant of 2010's Cartier Calibre de Cartier, the Diver is a two-way player that eclipses the appeal of the original dress model. With only 11mm of case thickness and a black/white dress code that seems tailor-made for a tux, the Calibre de Cartier soars in formal settings where other "tool" watches simply fall flat. Classic Cartier features including the cabochon sapphire crown, stylized Roman numerals with secret signature (at ten o'clock), and dial guilloche fly the flag for Cartier's traditional clientele. The classical inspiration of the dial dovetails with the role of the diver; playful use of Super LumiNova ensures abundant low-light legibility and a lights-out aesthetic that’s instantly recognizable as a Cartier. But the unidirectional rotating dive bezel, supple rubber strap, and screw-down crown reinforce the dive credentials of this Calibre de Cartier Diver. A true ISO 6425-compliant dive watch, the Diver is rated to identical performance specifications as the arch-rival Rolex Submariner. Inside the 42mm steel case, the Calibre de Cartier Diver delivers on the promise of its name. The 2010-present Cartier MC 1904 manufacture caliber provides automatic winding via smooth bi-directional rotor action. Ceramic bearings ensure efficient energy transfer to the twin mainspring barrels. And a hacking (stop seconds) feature enables the user to synchronize his watch to a reliable reference clock - or a dive timer.
