About Lange 1

Presenting the first four Lange 1 watches in 1994 following the re-establishment of A. Lange & Söhne manufactory, the collection has quickly become recognized as the brand’s flagship suite. For nearly 20 years, Lange 1 timepieces remained the same, but today, various iterations have hit the market like the 36.8mm Little Lange 1, Lange 1 Moon Phase, and the Lange 1 Tourbillon Perpetual Calendar. This collection skillfully combines tradition and innovation, showcasing A. Lange & Söhne’s watchmaking prowess and expertise. Traditional elements like the three-quarter plate, screwed gold chatons, and hand-finished surfaces are just a few things that purists might take notice of, while pioneering features include the off-centre dial layout and outsize date display inspired by the 5-minute clock in Dresden’s Semperoper opera house. Every piece in this collection is made in-house, and since 2015, have been equipped with the in-house movement L121.1. Explore an array of models available in precious metals like platinum, rose gold, and yellow gold. Discover the Lange 1 Collection

If you’re interested in a Lange 1, there are various references, styles, and functions to choose from. Some may prefer the collection’s original generations and early versions like the ref. 101.001, 101.002, and 101.005, while others may opt for a newer iteration like the ref. 191.021 or 191.028. The biggest distinction between old and new references would be the caliber that is used, so make sure you know the difference if that is an important factor for you.

  • The Calibers

For over 20 years, prior to 2015, A. Lange & Söhne was using the in-house caliber L901.0 to power Lange 1 models. Then in 2015, they began using the impressive L121.1 movement which features a proprietary balance spring and cam-poised balance rather than screws used to set the movement. Additionally, it flaunts a three-quarter plate and screw-down gold chatons, two barrels, and a 72-hour power reserve.
