Blue, grey, and underway is the way of the Navy, and nothing says Offshore power like the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore Themes "Navy" with a full stainless steel bracelet. Normally seen with a hornback alligator leather strap, the 42mm Navy was rarely purchased with a mil spec "full metal jacket" (bracelet) as seen here. Consider this one the flagship. A full steel bracelet transforms the presence and coherence of the Royal Oak Offshore Navy. Its defining feature - the dial - retains the model's classic blue-white contrast, but the tapered bracelet restores the integrated look of the traditional Royal Oak. Designed in 1972 by Gerald Genta and reimagined in a modern (i.e. "Offshore") paradigm by Emmanuel Gueit in 1993, the Royal Oak looks more natural on a finely finished chain of metal. Each Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore features a case honed to perfection by the hands of AP artisans in Le Brassus. When equipped with a bracelet, the craftsman added-value of an Offshore soars. Each link represents a work of art in itself. Brushed hoots, tapered flanks, mirror-polished camfers, and smooth undersides elevate endow each piece of this assembly with virtues worthy of MOMA exhibition. A robust twin-trigger double deployant clasp provides secure retention and crisp operation. The Royal Oak Offshore Navy is ALL about the dial, and it remains a stunner. Audemars Piguet's classic Offshore "Mega" Tapisserie has been subdued in texture and imbued with luster via thick coats of white lacquer. The treatment creates gloss brilliance that contrasts in exquisite fashion with the "Navy" blue elements of the numerals, tachymeter, sub-dials, and hands. An Audemars Piguet in-house caliber 3126/3840 movement keeps the beat at 21,600 VpH (3Hz). With 59 jewels and 365 parts, this is complicated watchmaking at its finest. But a sailor needs reliable gear, and the Offshore "Navy" delivers; a free-sprung balance assembly and full balance bridge holds the line against shock-induced timing error. AP provides a generous 50-55hr power reserve, and the mainspring is energized via smooth bi-directional winding. Ceramic ball bearings optimize the efficiency and longevity of the winding system, and their unlubricated operation minimizes future maintenance requirements.
