All 2018 Baselworld Zenith watches belong to sports watch families including the Zenith Defy and Zenith Pilot model lines, but the Zenith Defy class of 2018 simply eclipses all other Zenith El Primero and Elite-powered offerings. The headliner is Zenith’s “Zenith Defy Zero G” which features a Zenith caliber 8812S that mounts the classic 36,000 VpH El Primero escapement to a gimbal reminiscent of a vintage marine chronometer case. But there’s a key difference; this gimballed escapement fits within the confines of a Zenith Watch. The Zenith Defy Zero G marks the latest evolution of a Zenith gimballed caliber that began with the Defy Xtreme Zero G Tourbillon and later evolved into a more genteel role inside the Zenith Christophe Colomb series. The new version of the Defy Zero G packs an escapement that is 70% smaller than the previous iteration; it no longer requires the awkward sapphire bubbles of the previous Defy Xtreme and Christophe Colomb. A 50-hour power reserve is wound manually, and the 44mm case offers 100-meter water resistance. Both straps and bracelets are offered, and the 2018 Baselworld novelty Zenith Defy Zero G can be purchased in either rose gold or titanium. The Zenith Defy Classic 41 is a 41mm titanium timepiece for those who prefer not to spend $100,000 on their 2018 Zenith Defy. The new Zenith Defy Classic can be had on a rubber strap, a leather strap or a bracelet; both open dial and solid dial Defy Classic 41mm models are offered. Inside the case, a Zenith Elite Caliber 679 with automatic winding, 50-hour power reserve, hacking seconds, and a bi-directional quick-set date comprise the running gear. For good measure, Zenith’s 2018 Baselworld novelties include a new Swiss Beatz sub-family of Zenith Defy watches. The Swiss Beatz Defy El Primero 21 can be purchased in white gold with diamonds, white ceramic without diamonds, or as a Swiss Beatz Zenith Defy Zero G with signature orange leather, dial accents, and 44mm titanium case.
