About Gondolo

The Patek Philippe Gondolo collection has a compelling history and interesting legacy, dating back to the 1800s. This collection is named after a famous retailer in Rio de Janeiro named Gondolo & Labouriau, someone who Patek Philippe had a successful business relationship with from 1872 to 1927. This partnership soon gave way to timepieces designed exclusively for the Brazilian retailer—the Chronometro Gondolo, a collection of pocket watches. At the time, sales were so impressive in Brazil that “Patek” became a substitute for the word “watch” among residents. During the 1920s, the Chronometro Gondolo was offered in a wristwatch variation as well, and in the Jazz Age, the cases ranged from round, square, rectangular, to tonneau- and cushion-shaped. Today, some historical pocket watches from the original Gondolo collection, as well as some early 1920s wristwatch iterations, can be admired in the Patek Philippe Museum in Geneva.

In 1993, the modern Gondolo collection was released, capturing Patek’s reinterpretation of some of the brand’s historical heritage pieces, giving them a fresh edge. The Gondolo suite is home to Patek’s “form” watches, a term used to describe timepieces that don’t have a round case shape. The style in this collection is heavily influenced by Art Deco and cases are predominantly rectangular or tonneau-shaped. Additionally, women can enjoy exquisite Ladies Gondolo offerings like delicate diamond-studded pieces. Although this collection is expansive, several models stand out to collectors and enthusiasts.
