Omega Seamaster Diver 300M Co-Axial James Bond 50th Anniversary Luxury Watch Review James Bond is - hands down - the world's best watch salesman. Since his 1962 silver screen debut in "Dr. No," Agent 007 has moved more Swiss hardware than the entire Swiss Army combined. And this Omega Seamaster Diver 300M Co-Axial James Bond 50th Anniversary model is proof-positive that the Swiss are major 007 fans. This Omega Seamaster limited edition was released on the occasion of 2012's box office and critical success "Skyfall" to commemorate 50 years of Bond on film. And while retro-grouches may hold out, the tandem of James Bond and Omega luxury watches is well into its second decade; that's worth celebrating in its own right. The key elements of this Seamaster Diver 300M are the same cues that have defined the now classic "Bond" Seamasters since Pierce Brosnan donned his first in 1995's "Goldeneye." Thanks to Bond, the skeleton hands, round indexes, 41mm case, helium release valve, and silky-smooth five-link bracelet have become iconic elements of the Seamaster 300M line. Omega's 50th anniversary tribute is subtle but impressive, and it starts at the gloss black ceramic bezel. A technology that Brosnan's 007 could only dream of, ceramic endows a bezel insert with the same degree of scratch resistance as a sapphire crystal. This ceramic insert also features a discreet nod to Bond; the "50" calibration mark is blazon in red. On the brilliant black lacquer dial, a diagonally-oriented "007" logo motive spans the surface, but its presence only become apparent upon close scrutiny. Red text at 12 o'clock declares an additional refinement that would have impressed 90s-era Q-branch: a co-axial escapement beats within this suave Seamaster. Omega's caliber 2507 (get it?) embodies all of the evolutionary upgrades that have helped the watchmaker to realize the potential of its original 1999 technological bombshell. Long-term precision, day-to-day accuracy, and the exclusivity factor (only Omega can use the Co-Axial) make the "Co-Ax" a real asset in regular use. For good measure, the automatic movement is a COSC-certified Swiss Chronometer with stop seconds for precise time-setting. Since we're on a James Bond kick, Omega enhances the case back of this Seamaster Diver 300M Co-Axial James Bond 50th Anniversary with a rifled engraving and visible commemorative winding rotor cap with "007" tribute text. Omega's Seamaster Diver 300M clasp remains a model of fit, finish, and functional excellence. It opens with a fluid swing and closes with a satisfying "snick." Twin release triggers guard against accidental deployment, and a first rate dive extension feels as robust at the other elements. Even better, this extension can find frequent real-world application for use over a winter coat or thick sweater.
