About Millenary

Audemars Piguet launched its original oval-shaped Millenary luxury wristwatch in 1995. It was designed by Emmanuel Gueit, the 25-year-old design prodigy of the Royal Oak Offshore. The watch’s shape stemmed from an old AP case design made in 1951, inspired by the Coliseum in Rome. Audemars Piguet Millenary was named to honor the approaching third millennium. This collection is known for its elliptical cases, decentralized dials, and beautifully skeletonized movements. The model’s in-house caliber, 4140, was reversed to enable the dial side to display compliments of the watch that are normally hidden. Over time, the Millenary family has seen slight tweaks to the original design, like in the early 2000s when the case size expanded from 38mm to a more contemporary 47mm. Of the many watches to test the oval case concept, the Millenary has proved to be one of the most enduring and ambitious. In 2018, new Audemars Piguet Millenary models were launched for ladies, featuring mother-of-pearl and opal dials with diamond-set bezels and lugs.

Instantly Recognizable Audemars Piguet Millenary Models

The Millenary family offers a variety of models with tourbillons, perpetual calendars, and minute repeaters. Learn more about a few of the models in this collection below or watch our review of AP’s “Golden Egg”.

  • Millenary Frosted Gold Opal Dial

This 18-carat pink gold model features a Frosted Gold finishing, created through an ancient gold hammering process. Jewelry designer Carolina Bucci designed this case finishing originally for the Royal Oak, but AP later introduced it to some Millenary models. Opal was also introduced on the dial of this timepiece, each selected by AP for their vivid iridescence.

  • Millenary Minute Repeater

A horological highlight in the Audemars Piguet Millenary collection, the minute repeater model is one of the most intricate complications, one of AP’s specialties. Powered by the in-house caliber 2928, this watch tells the time acoustically.

  • Millenary Frosted Gold Aventurine Dial

Featuring a 18-carat white gold case, this timepiece is known for its eye-catching Aventurine dial. Aventurine glass originated in 17th century Venice. Today, the glass is obtained by introducing black copper oxide and cobalt during the cooling phase, which colours the glass in blue and produces a constellation of mineral particles.
