About Transocean

In 1958, one of the industry’s premier pilot watch manufacturers released the infamous Breitling Transocean—a classic watch collection featuring retro design and sleek bezels. The initial three-hand watch model has since evolved to include chronograph pieces and a relaunched suite in 2010. Regardless of complication or iteration, this timeless Swiss watch has maintained its vintage look and feel for decades, paying homage to the brand’s rich history. The Breitling Transocean Chronograph is reminiscent of chronographs from the 1950s and 60s with subdued dial designs, a neutral color scheme, baton indices, and sharp, elegant bezels. For many collectors, keeping tradition is imperative as Breitling was the first wristwatch chronograph in space. In 1962, Scott Carpenter became the second American in orbit while wearing the Navitimer Cosmonaute—a stunning chronograph that deserves recognition for years to come. Today, the Breitling Transocean is available in a wide variety of straps like leather, rubber and textile, and stainless steel bracelets. However, dial options in this collection are a bit more limited with options including mercury silver, black, or Mother-of-Pearl. Interested in learning more about Breitling’s history? Read this article that discusses their rebound and growth, or pursue our assortment of pre-owned dress watches from other luxury brands.

Discover Breitling Transocean Models

Unlike many other pilot watches, the Breitling Transocean was actually designed for international travelers in the 1950s and 60s. This collection features mesmerizing aesthetics and spellbinding chronograph movements, boasting COSC-certifications and incredible precision for both their mechanical and quartz components. Explore a breadth of Breitling Transocean options, including pieces for both men and women.

  • Classic Chronographs

The Breitling Transocean Chronograph features the automatic in-house caliber B01 which is a self-winding chronograph movement. This watch also has an impressive 70-hour power reserve, allowing the wearer to take it off and set it aside for long periods of time. Additionally, the Breitling Transocean Chronograph 1461 is a captivating option, featuring a moon phase display and semi-perpetual calendar, giving the model its name—it only needs to be corrected every 1,461 days at the leap year. Interested in a unisex piece? The Breitling Transocean Chronograph 38 is a great option that includes a large twin-aperture calendar beneath the 12 o’clock, a chamfered bezel, and curved lugs.

  • Limited Editions

For those who love perpetual calendar complications, the limited edition Breitling Transocean QP is a great collection addition. As long as it keeps running, this piece won’t need to be corrected until 2100. This rare find is available in a rose gold case with three different dial colors—blue, brown or black. Each dial color is limited to 25 pieces.

  • Noteworthy Functions

First released in 1958, the Breitling Transocean Unitime was not yet a chronograph, and the time zone had to be set using a rotatable bezel. It featured two rings including an inner ring with twenty-four different cities, and a 24-hour scale ring. Today however, current Unitime models have a chronograph and world time functions. If you need to change the time zone, you simply pull out the crown to the first position and turn it in either direction to correct the hour hand, 24-hour scale, and city ring while the date changes automatically. But, if you need the city time to stay the same, but the hour hands and 24-hour scale must be adjusted, just set the crown to the second position. If you’re looking for a Transocean with an additional day display, opt for the Day-Date and check our Breitling Transocean Day-Date watch review to see it close up.
