About Tag Heuer

The Swiss luxury brand’s rich history began in 1860 when founder Edouard Heuer launched his watchmaking business, Uhrenmanufaktur Heuer AG. Currently known as TAG Heuer, the company’s humble beginnings are rooted in Heuer’s passion for sport, performance, innovation, and precision. In the 1880s, the world saw a rapid rise in sport popularity, and Heuer took it as an opportunity to fill a gap in the watch market. He started producing incredibly accurate pocket chronographs that were soon used to time high profile racing events on land and in water. Then in 1914, Heuer adapted to the emergence of wristwatches by creating his own wrist chronographs. As the 1920s approached, the company behind TAG Heuer was recognized for their sport stopwatch reliability, making them the world’s leading sport timekeeper supplying chronographs for the Olympic Games and other world championships—seemingly foreshadowing their impact on motorsports in decades to come. In 1986, Heuer’s company was acquired by a private holding company called Techniques d’Avant Garde who renamed the brand TAG Heuer, combining their own initials with Heuer’s surname. Under new ownership, this avant-garde luxury brand focused on refreshing their range of offerings with new models like the Formula 1 and S/el sports series.
