Panerai Luminor Power Reserve PAM 027 Luxury Watch Review

http://www.thewatchbox.com/watches/panerai Combine a rare reference with refined aesthetics and rugged sports watch credentials., and the result is the Panerai Luminor Power Reserve PAM 027. This 44mm stainless steel collector's piece is a blast from the past; examples were built for only three model years (A, B, and C), and the unique central seconds/power reserve stack is a favorite of Paneristi who crave individuality. Blessed with a distinctive and balanced dial, the PAM 027 is one of the most versatile Panerai models. Its refinement complements rather than clashes with formal attire, and the upscale alligator leather strap compounds the synergies when black tie is the order of the evening. Unlike the succeeding Luminor Power Reserve PAM 090 and its kin, the PAM 027 offers the coherence that only symmetry can provide. As an added bonus the compact Soprod 9040 caliber in the PAM 027 allowed Panerai to fit a slimmer case back to the PAM 027 than the later Valjoux-based power reserves. This svelte Luminor wears easily under long sleeves or cuffs. But the 300-meter water resistance and iconic "Device Protecting the Crown" ensure this posh Panerai remains a Luminor to the core. A sports watch in the truest sense, the stainless steel PAM 027 is one quick strap-swap away from a carefree day at the beach. Inside the 44mm polished steel Panerai Luminor "cushion" case, a Soprod 9040 movement keeps the beat at 28,800 VpH. The automatic Soprod is based on the architecture of the thing-but-tough ETA 2892-A2, a movement famous for powering an entire generation of "James Bond" Omega Seamasters. The Soprod 2892 variant, known as the "A10" is paired with Soprod's power reserve complication module in order to keep the user apprised of the 42-hour power reserve. Hacking seconds ensures easy synchronization to a reference time, and COSC Swiss Chronometer certification ensures the precision to hold the correct time once set.
