That culls the heard considerably; you need the Panerai Radiomir GMT Alarm PAM 098. Part of a long-since discontinued family of alarm-equipped dual-time Panerai Radiomir models, the PAM 098 is one of the most versatile Panerai timepieces every offered. For model years 2001-2006, the renowned Firenze-based watchmaker graced the market with a bare handful of these full-featured Panerai Radiomir GMT Alarm watches. The combination of "Officine Panerai" and "complicated watch" is something of an exception by definition, so the company called in a key ally: Girard-Perregaux. G-P's complications prowess needs no introduction, and the firm immediately modified a tried-and-true automatic A. Schild caliber to provide the motive force behind the refined Panerai Radiomir PAM 098. With a second time zone, a date, an alarm, and automatic winding, there's a tremendous amount of upscale horology packed into this 42mm polished stainless steel case. Speaking of *that* case, it's a stunner. Formal attire and Panerai are only slightly more accustomed than the latter and complications, so the sight of a slender and viable black tie" companion from Firenze is enough to turn heads at your local Red Bar meet-up. But this Panerai Radiomir PAM 098 achieves the improbable. Consider the depth of the dial; the management of space from its polished rim down its dished rehaut into the indexes is a case study in visual tension. The captive eye glides downward across the structures and into the magnetic pull of the expressive polished baton hands. Despite the breadth of information available (alarm time, local time zone, date, reference time zone), the Panerai Radiomir GMT Alarm retains outstanding symmetry and visual balance. There is no sense of crowding or busy details; the classical simplicity of the underlying Panerai sports watch shines through undimmed. It's a sight to behold, but only a fortunate few will behold it on their own wrists. With few examples in circulation and many permanently "retired" from the market as prized collector's pieces, the Panerai Radiomir GMT Alarm PAM 098 is a serious trophy for any watch box.
