Rolex Oyster Perpetual Explorer II 216570 Luxury Watch Review

http://www.thewatchbox.com The original ref. 1655 "Orange Arrow" Rolex Explorer II was reborn for 2011 as the ref. 216570. Rolex has retained the classic character of the original in a package thats as modern as it is handsome. Start with the new case. Rolex revived the lines of its classic "Steve McQueen" Explorer II in a robust 42mm case. The "Super Case" reads with the same proportions of the original, but the watch features a modern wrist presence that the 40mm vintage model cannot match. The new movement, Rolex caliber 3187, combines dual-time utility with Rolex's Paraflex shock absorbers and Parachrom Blue hairspring. Each of the latter is a Rolex innovation that contributes to this COSC Swiss chronometer's resistance to timing errors. "Perpetual" winding via silky smooth teflon-coated reversing wheels remains a Rolex trademark. The Explorer II 216570 also upgrades the bracelet and clasp from its 16570 predecessor. Whereas the old Explorer II continued to employ the outdated stamped Oysterclasp with spring-bar micro adjustment, the new 216570 features a robust milled unit that closes like the door of a 1990 Mercedes S-Class. Its Easylink 5mm micro-adjuster permits incremental changes to bracelet fit without necessitating access to a jeweler or tools. This Rolex Oyster Perpetual Explorer II 216570 is available from thewatchbox.com with full Rolex boxes, papers, and accessories. Video and content by Tim Mosso.
