About Vintage

Founded in 1755, Vacheron Constantin is a renowned Swiss luxury watchmaker and one of the oldest manufacturers in the world. Interestingly, the company’s founder, Jean-Marc Vacheron was a close friend of philosophers like Jean-Jacques Rousseau and Voltaire, forming a bond over their common interest in philosophy, science, and watchmaking. Due to the brand’s rich history, it’s no surprise that their catalog of offerings is brimming with unique vintage pieces and historic models that can’t be found anywhere else. Taking pride in their legacy, they have even founded a Heritage Department dedicated to restoring watches from the 20th century and reviving them as part of the collection coined “Les Collectionneurs.” After thorough restoration, each watch from this exclusive suite is paired with a certificate of authenticity and a two-year guarantee. Given their centuries’ long tradition in horological excellence, Vacheron Constantin has had the unique privilege to curate a fascinating and expansive archive of wristwatches that feature compelling complications and unparalleled movements. For example, the brand is recognized for creating the first watch complication in 1790, as well as designing the world’s thinnest minute repeater in 1992—and these feats are just the tip of the iceberg. Explore Vacheron’s Vintage Models

When one thinks of Vacheron, they likely picture the regal and impressive Overseas collection—with good reason. Because of this, there are many iterations of this model that can be considered vintage, but let’s start from the beginning. Kicking off with the Vacheron 222, this vintage icon created by Jorg Hysek was the original design of the Overseas before the brand started referring to it as such in the 1970s. This piece borrows many hallmarks of the “Genta” design with features like a thin, barrel-shaped case with a notched round bezel, and a small Maltese cross inlaid at the 5 o’clock. Decades later, Vacheron Constantin released the Overseas Phase 1 which ran between 1996 and 2004. Today, many of these early iterations are considered vintage Vacheron watches as the first model was 37mm, water resistant up to 150m, and powered by the VC1310 caliber. Other notable vintage watches worth mentioning include the Platinum Minute Repeater Perpetual Calendar Moon-Phase ref. 30020 from 1993, as well as ref. 4178, an illustrious pink gold chronograph from 1942.

  • The Historiques Collection

It would be a mistake to discuss Vacheron Constantin vintage without touching on this family of watches. The Historiques collection offers contemporary reinterpretations of iconic models from the heritage of the Maison. Blending rigorous technical sophistication with daring aesthetics, a selection of specific pieces come to mind such as the Ultra-Fine 1955, American 1921 ref. 11677, Triple Calendrier 1942, and Cornes De Vache 1955.
