SIHH 2019: Vacheron Constantin Traditionnelle Twin Beat Perpetual Calendar

Contact tmosso@thewatchbox.com for pricing and availability; Either I have it, or I can get it! SIHH 2019 launches a new star: the Vacheron Constantin Traditionnelle Twin Beat Perpetual Calendar. This 42mm white gold prototype offers a glimpse of a final $104,000 U.S. Vacheron Constantin Twin Beat production watch. Already hailed as the best new watch of SIHH 2019, the Twin Beat is a brilliant example of luxury watch grandeur with blue sky watchmaking imagination At 42mm in diameter with a thickness of 12.3mm, the Vacheron Twin Beat is large but not oversized. The lugs are strong but comfortable on the wrist, and the case design is restrained. Among SIHH 2019 new releases, the Twin Beat falls mid-pack in size and wrist presence; this one wins with brains, not brawn. The Twin Beat introduces itself with a dial composed of half rose lathe Guilloché and half sapphire discs over movement baseplate. Perpetual calendar date, month, and leap year cycle indications float over the caliber 3610 main plate at six o'clock. At 12 o'clock, the Twin Beat includes sapphire disc with lacquered indications for the 65-hour 1.2Hz power reserve or the four day 5hz power reserve. A button at eight o'clock switches the running modes, and an adjacent mode display indicates the watch's current rate setting. The Twin Beat includes a Vacheron Constantin manufacture caliber 3610 manual wind movement. One mainspring barrel transmits its power through a center differential so that either the high beat or slow beat balance can be driven. The 65-day standby power reserve sees the watch run at 8,640 vibrations per hour; the 96-hour power reserve operates at 18,000 vibrations per hour. Two independent drive trains drive the Vacheron Twin Beat's alternate escapements. The primary balance is a smaller one that runs at a frantic rate in comparison to the 1.2Hz escapement and it's comparatively huge balance For additional rotational mass reduction and reduced friction, the Vacheron Twin Beat's standby escapement includes a silicon escape wheel. All surfaces and hardware of the Vacheron Constantin caliber 3610 are finished to Geneva Hallmark standards. Finally, the Traditionnelle Twin Beat Perpetual Calendar employs a new low-drag instantaneous jump perpetual calendar mechanism developed expressly for this model. As with Patek Philippe and Rolex's premier calendar watches, the Twin Beat's calendar jumps precisely and instantly at midnight.
