The second generation Vacheron Constantin Overseas was launched in 2004 and quickly became a rival to the established Audemars Piguet Royal Oak, Royal Oak Offshore, and Patek Philippe Nautilus. The Overseas Chronograph 49150 is a robust sports watch with the size to rival an Offshore and the stylistic versatility to challenge the more casual Patek Philippe Aquanaut. Vacheron Constantin's chronograph includes a caliber 1137 automatic based on an F. Piguet 1185. The automatic caliber features a 40-hour power reserve, 37 jewels, a vertical clutch and column wheel chronograph function, and a beat rate of the 21,600 vibrations per hour. The movement is adjusted in five positions and includes high horology finish on its surface. The generation two Overseas Chronograph's signature "grande date" is operated by a Vacheron Constantin complication module. Vacheron's dial employs a crosshatched embossed dial pattern with a galvanized silver color in this 49150/B01R-9454 reference. Hands, applied hour indices, chronograph register chapter rings, and the Vacheron Maltese cross logo are solid 18-karat rose gold to match the case. Super Luminova is employed to ensure robust legibility at night. The Overseas Chronograph is a committed sports watch. Durability enhancing features include screw down crowns, a water resistance rating of 150 meters, a soft iron antimagnetic cage endowing the 49150 with antimagnetic resistance of 25,0000 amperes per meter, and the bracelet is fixed to the Overseas case with screws rather than spring bars. The Vacheron Constantin Overseas generation two includes a robust bracelet on which each individual link can be removed in order to achieve ideal sizing for any wrist. The Overseas bracelet is extremely flexible and will accommodate wrists of all sizes; the junction of the bracelet and lugs is pivoted to allow for a secure fit on the wrists of slender watch collectors. Vacheron Constantin's Overseas launched in 1996 with a case and bracelet designed to recall the 1977 Vacheron Constantin 222 sports watch. The second generation of the Overseas employs the same basic design principles, but a distinctive set of Maltese cross motifs have been extended from the bezel to the links of the bracelet, the triggers of the clasp, the interior of the clasp, and the cap of the crown. Vacheron's pervasive use of rose gold has created a watch that compares favorably the legendary Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore 26470OR "Brick" or "Pounder" in weight on the wrist, but the Overseas fits better than the Offshore. Vacheron finishes its watch with a handsome case back featuring the image of the Italian Navy training vessel "Amerigo Vespucci," a full rigged ship that graced the case back of the first two generations of the Overseas sports watch. Functions include hours, minutes, seconds, date and chronograph. The watch also measures 12.6mm in thickness and 50.8mm from lug-to-lug. For complete details, watch the full review!
