The F.P. Journe Watch: A High-Precision Timepiece

F.P. Journe addresses the push and pull between perfecting a historical craft and looking to the future. Crafting some of the rarest and most exclusive timepieces in the world, F.P. Journe gives collectors access to living history. The workshop’s annual production of 800 to 900 watches a year ensures exceptional exclusivity, regardless of the model selection.

F.P. Journe’s History

The F.P. Journe brand of watches was founded by François-Paul Journe, who was born in 1957 in Marseille. Considered an unruly child, he was sent to a technical college by the time he was 14 and went on to graduate in 1976 from the Paris watchmaking school. The motto of this brand is Invenit et Fecit in Latin, which means “He invented it and made it.” The very first watch Journe created was a tourbillon pocket watch, which he began in 1977 and completed in 1983. Then, Journe completed a handful of high-end commissioned pocket watches for a small set of connoisseurs. In 1991, Journe made the transition from designing pocket watches to wristwatches, hand-building his first tourbillon wristwatch. The very first production wristwatch from Journe was the Tourbillon Souverain in 1999, with a caliber 1498 manually-wound tourbillon featuring a power reserve of 42 hours from a single barrel. The Reference T was produced until the end of 2003.

When it comes to the many impressive creations launched by F. P. Journe over the years, few if any have garnered more attention than the Chronomètre à Résonance. In the early 1800s, Breguet experimented with the concept of resonance in a watch movement, crafting three pocket watches with a pair of movements/geartrains in a single housing, affixed to the same mainplate. In 2000, François-Paul Journe became the first watchmaker to scale this principle down into a wristwatch, cementing himself into the watch industry record books one of many times through his illustrious and ongoing career. Since the turn of the millennia, the Chronomètre à Résonance has seen a delicate evolution through to its present day state, as well as a handful of special variations for some of the different F.P. Journe boutiques around the globe.
