The History of the Jaeger LeCoultre Master Collections
The history of Jaeger LeCoultre watchmaking dates all the way back to 1833. Edmond Jaeger and Antoine LeCoultre are the two founders and are, of course, where the company’s name is derived. Since their foundry, JLC has developed and created an astounding 1200 unique watch calibers. This demonstrated mastery of watchmaking is why many refer to Jaeger LeCoultre as the “watchmaker’s watchmaker.” The watches that make up the overarching Master collection have been being fine-tuned and developed over this timespan.
What makes the the Jaeger LeCoultre Master Collection so desirable?
There is something to be had for everyone in the Master Collection from JLC. For collectors who are just starting out and want to add such a prestigious brand to their collection, something like the Master Control Date would be a perfect entry level option. These also make a great everyday piece. The Master Ultra Thin is ideal for formal situations, and the Master Grande Tradition is certainly for the more seasoned collector who can truly appreciate and admire the craftsmanship that goes into these pieces. One of the biggest highlights of the Master Collection as a whole is that as the price of the watches decreases, the attention to detail and fine finishing does not drastically diminish.
Why buy pre-owned Jaeger LeCoultre Watches and the Master Collections?
There is tremendous value to be had for collectors buying JLC watches second-hand. These watches are already solid buys at retail considering the high-end movements and attention to detail, but this value proposition is amplified when it comes to the pre-owned markets. If you are looking to add any of the watches from the Master Collection to your collection, Watchbox’s global inventory is the best place to start your search!
About the Jaeger LeCoultre Master Collections
The “Master” collection from Jaeger LeCoultre (JLC for short) is a varied mix of watches that are broken into three smaller sub-collections: Control, Ultra Thin, Grande Tradition. The Master Control collection is comprised mostly of everyday pieces. The simplest models are the Master Control Dates, which are a sleek dial with a date function at the 3 o’clock position and 6, 9, and 12 numerals circling the dial. Moving up the tiers in the same collection, alarm, world time, and even tourbillon functions are available. As the name suggests of the Master Ultra Thin collection, this line is comprised of especially slim and elegant dress watches suited for more formal occasions. These dials are mostly free from numerals, with sharp, triangular markers taking their place. The simplest models here have a sub-seconds feature at the 6 o’clock position, but there are also striking moonphases, power reserves, pointer dates, and annual calendar options. The watches in the Master Grande Tradition collection speak for themselves and highlight the mastery of watchmaking that Jaeger LeCoultre is most known for. These watches are available in both pink gold and platinum, and the dials have simple stick markers going around. The star of the show here is the gorgeous tourbillon featured in the dial cutout.
