Cartier Drive De Cartier: A Fresh Take
Sporty yet extremely elegant, the Cartier Drive De Cartier was released in 2016—a new dress watch collection entirely dedicated to men which is rare for the brand. At first glance, the Drive De Cartier appears characteristically Cartier, but with a fresh design twist unseen in their other collections, this suite blends the look and feel of a vintage watch with modern charm and style. Featuring a cushion-shaped case and integrated lugs, these timepieces also flaunt a domed crystal, sapphire dial, artful proportions, and a precise in-house movement. Interestingly, the Drive De Cartier’s caliber 1904-PS MC - PS means “petite seconde” or small seconds, and it’s the first automatic movement produced entirely in-house.
Currently, there are a few iterations of the Drive De Cartier including a steel model, a date, a flying tourbillon, and a dual time reference. Shortly after its release, Cartier also created a Drive Extra-Flat which is slightly smaller with a 39mm case compared to the original Drive’s 41mm case. For those interested in aesthetics, the Drive De Cartier is available in metals like stainless steel and gold, and several neutral dial colors like white, black, and grey. Its subtle details include a combination of brushed and polished surfaces, hands that change color in different lights, a radial pattern on the sub-seconds dial, and a case curvature in the shape of a domed crystal. Other design hallmarks include Roman numerals, blued hands, a guilloché dial, and a sapphire on the crown. Check out a selection of our favorite pre-owned models.
